Move your Microsoft 365 away from GoDaddy
Migrate from GoDaddy to Microsoft 365 without moving a single file. Full control, no downtime, no lost mail, no problems.
Sound familiar?
You bought “Office 365” through GoDaddy years ago, probably while registering a domain. It worked fine. Until it didn’t.
- You need to change a setting, and the option simply isn’t there. GoDaddy’s version of Microsoft 365 hides half the admin center.
- You want to add a license, set up proper security, or connect a tool, and every answer is “contact GoDaddy support.”
- GoDaddy support reads from a script, tells you to contact Microsoft. Microsoft tells you to contact GoDaddy.
- Your renewal price crept up, and you’re paying for a stripped-down product at a premium price.
You’re not locked in. It just feels that way.
What’s actually going on
When you buy Microsoft 365 through GoDaddy, your tenant is “federated” with theirs. GoDaddy sits between you and Microsoft, controlling your admin access, your settings, and your billing.
The fix is called defederation. Nothing moves. Your tenant, your mailboxes, your files all stay exactly where they are. GoDaddy’s layer is removed, and you end up with the same Microsoft 365 everyone else has: full admin access, standard Microsoft pricing, no middleman. It’s a well-trodden path, and I know where the potholes are.
How it works
Free intro call
Tell me your situation: how many users, what you use, what’s frustrating you. I’ll confirm you’re on a federated tenant, explain what’s involved, and quote a fixed price. No commitment.
Preparation
I document your current setup, prepare the licensing you’ll move to, and plan the cutover around your working hours. You keep working. Nothing changes yet.
Defederation
GoDaddy’s federation is removed from your tenant. Your accounts, email, calendars, and files are untouched because they never leave your tenant. For most small businesses the disruptive part fits in an evening or weekend.
Handover
You get the admin access GoDaddy never gave you. I walk you through the essentials, set up proper security (MFA, the works), and connect billing directly to Microsoft. Then the GoDaddy subscription gets cancelled, and the middleman is gone.
What you get afterwards
The real admin center
Every setting Microsoft makes available, not GoDaddy’s reduced version.
Direct relationship with Microsoft
Licenses at standard pricing, no reseller markup.
Proper security options
Conditional Access, real MFA policies, device management. The things GoDaddy’s version locks away.
Freedom to work with anyone
Any IT provider can support a standard tenant. Including me, if you want ongoing help, but there’s no obligation.
What it costs
Defederation starts at €340, fixed price. The exact quote depends on your tenant size and setup, and you get the number after the free intro call, before anything starts. No hourly surprises, no “it took longer than expected.”
If you want help with Microsoft 365 after the move, I also offer ongoing support or per-incident help. Entirely optional. Any IT provider can work with a standard tenant, so the choice is yours.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose email during the process?
No. This is defederation, not migration. Your mailboxes never move, so there’s nothing to lose. Mail keeps flowing throughout.
Do my email addresses stay the same?
Yes, and so does everything else. Same tenant, same mailboxes, same files. The only thing that changes is who’s in charge: you, not GoDaddy.
How long does it take?
Preparation usually takes a few days. The cutover itself fits in an evening or weekend for most small businesses. You’ll get a timeline in the intro call.
Will my OneDrive and SharePoint files come along?
They stay exactly where they are. Files, folder structures, and permissions are untouched because nothing moves.
Can I keep my domain at GoDaddy?
Yes, and many clients do. Domain registration and Microsoft 365 are separate things. Defederating one doesn’t force you to move the other.
What if I’m not sure I’m on GoDaddy’s version?
If you log in and can’t find settings other people talk about, or your admin center looks oddly limited, you probably are. Book the free call and I’ll confirm it in five minutes.
